ADL Mahre Camp 10.0 Recap with Highlights, Photos & Videos

Published by Kyle Watson on

We had one of our biggest and best camps ever last month down at Mt. Hood, Oregon and for all those who were there, we have compiled all the photos and videos from the event. We crowned a new Nagel Spiel Champion… congrats Kirk Swanson and huge props to all the campers for getting out of your comfort zones and improving greatly over the 3 and 5 day sessions. The weather might have been hot below, but it was perfect for us up on the Palmer Snow Field. We had a great group, with many new attendees from all over the USA. Steve Mahre even jumped in the course to demonstrate a strong GS sequence.

Everyone who attended is keen to see their photos and videos from the camp. Before we dive into a full recap here are the links for those.

Coaching Document
Coach Greg Klein’s Progression Ski Racing Document – The Progression Racing System (PRS) is an athlete’s/coach’s guide designed to integrate the science of expert performance and practice with modern ski racing.

We were super happy to host over 20 new campers this summer from all over the USA. We had a hard core group of passionate ADLers from Wisp Resort in Maryland. Also, new this year was the Puppies team from City League in Seattle. Two very passionate groups of skiers who all benefited from the great coaching and training. Thanks so much for coming.

We also had our 8th annual Nagel Spiel Tournament of Champions at the Glacier Haus on Saturday night. Camp rookie and all around great guy from Reno, NV – Kirk Swanson came out of no where to win his first ever championship. It was a great battle between another new comer Dan Jack from Seattle but in the end the man from Nevada took home the crown. Kirk also received the prestigious champions jacket which he will have the honor to wear all year. Will he win next year or will someone else get their name on the trophy?

We had 5 days of great weather and training. The mountain was the most crowded its ever been due to the Covid rebound. There were tons of kids camps going on and everyone was getting after it. We have to give special thanks to ADL friend and American Downhiller coach Scotty Veenis for hooking us up Friday and Saturday with a special course used by the US Ski Team on Secret Squirrel run. After our morning session on lane 6 we were able to take over the US Teams course at 1030AM to 12noon as they were done for the day. The course set was fantastic and positioned lower down the mountain where you could really work the terrain. It was well salted and perfect. Everyone in the camp loved being able to train on that course both days and it would not have been possible without Scotty’s initiative. THANK YOU SCOTTY AND THE US SKI TEAM!!!!!

In the end we all had a blast! Getting back together for our 10th Year Anniversary camp post covid was a huge stress relief for everyone involved. There is nothing more fun that ski racing in summer at Mt Hood with friends and coaches. Huge thank you’s to Phil & Steve Mahre, Greg Klein, Evan Keefer, Coach Sean, Nolan Kasper, Scotty Veenis, Gary Talcott, Miguel Azcarate and all the other Ligety Camp coaches who pitched in to make this camp truly special. There is no team of people to work with every summer.

Thank you to everyone who came and see you next year!!
