Franz Klammer Is Chasing The Line In America With The ADL Ski Club!

Published by Kyle Watson on

The ADLSKICLUB secured what Variety magazine is calling the most “innovative” movie deal of the year! Chasing The Line is the dramatic story of Franz Klammers 1976 Olympic Gold Medal Downhill victory. After years of turning down movie ideas, Franz not only gave this film his blessing, but he also makes a cameo, and the USA premier will be launched in Seattle on the 15th of February, at our classic North Bend Theater in the foothills of the Cascade Mountains, by your ADL Ski Club. The Second Showing will be in Portland, Oregon the following night 16th of February at the Clinton Street Theater.

To this day Franz Klammer is still considered the greatest downhiller of all time. Nowadays, where records barely survive a year before being broken again, his record for the most World Cup downhill victories still stands. His legendary status is founded on his Olympic downhill run on February 5, 1976. Before a crowd of 60,000 fans and millions watching on television, Klammer finds the line previously believed to be impossible.

Initially, we were only requesting the rights to promote the film in Seattle for our annual fall movie night but, after much discussion and changes in the film industry as a whole we decided to promote this movie across the whole country. The reputation of the club has grown across America with members in every state. The ADL also has a strong association with racing and especially the downhill. American Downhill legend and Honorary ADL Member for Life Daron Rahlves, is the stunt skier for Klammer in the movie and Werner Heel, who some of our members met on our Dolomites trip last winter, skis for Bernard Russi.

“We are really excited to get this film out there to passionate skiers and fans of the sport and even to non-skiers across America. It’s a feel-good movie and everyone will love it.”
– Kyle Watson, ADL Chairman

While the movie centers on Klammers famous victory in the 76 Olympics it also features the romantic side of the Kaiser and his wife Eva who met shortly before the Olympics and are still together 43 years later.

Fittingly, we will kick off the film tour with the USA Premier in Seattle at Benaroya Hall on Valentines Day, February 14th, 2023.  So mark your calendars and make it a date night to remember. We will have a great raffle, 70’s music, T-shirts, posters and much more. Tickets available soon at CHASINGTHELINE.COM

HOST A SHOW:
More shows are scheduled for Sun Valley, Aspen, Lake Tahoe and more will be announced as the tour grows. If you want to see Chasing The Line in your hometown contact us here. We are looking for more partners and venues to show this film.

All ADL members should be proud of their club bringing this historical movie to audiences across America. Many of us were inspired to ski and race after watching Klammers victory on ABC Sports in 1976. The audience numbers were in the millions and that broadcast really changed the perception of ski racing in the USA. We have members in almost every state in the country, if you would like to get this movie shown in your home town or city please let us know. We will be working with independent promoters and if you can’t find one, maybe it can be you!
