Hunting The Big 5 in Engelberg
We returned to Engelberg like big game hunters hoping to bag the infamous 5 freeride runs – from the mighty Steinberg, to the fickle Laub, challenging Sulz, the rare hidden Steintäli and the challenging descent of the Galtiberg – the BIG 5 are written in bold on our freeride bucket list!
Engelberg is big. Chamonix-esque big. It’s 4-6K lift and tram served vertical opens up so much different terrain you need a season to explore it all. We had a great group of long time ADLers on this trip and many of these folks had been on multiple trips. In Sam & Lori’s case, it was probably trip #6 for them, but it was everyone’s first time to Engelberg. We also had Pro Skier Chad Sayers with us for 2 incredible days of guiding and fun. There was raclette, fondue, goulash and cold, local brewskis and even a famous hamburger waiting for us. It was a trip with huge mountain views, big runs and tired legs.
