New Year New Gear
The ADL Guide to the New Gear We Just Gotta Have Next Winter.
Hot off our trip from Chile, the winter stoke has taken over and we can’t wait for next season. There is a bunch of new gear coming out that we think ya just gotta have… Read on to learn more about what’s new, why we like it and why we think you’re going to love it.
SKIS
Let’s start with everyone’s favorites – new skis. In our opinion you can never have too many skis. Anyone who says disagrees needs to find new friends 🙂 Seriously though, in todays world there are many skis for many different types of skiing from Alpine Race to Freeride/Powder and Backcountry. All serve a different requirement of performance. Many of you think you can get one ski that does it all. You can think that but, most of you are skiing on the wrong ski for the job. Let’s take wide skis – yes you can carve them but, its hard on the knees and hips – you’d be better off with a carving ski if you want to ski groomers. Not only will the carving ski be more fun… it will be easier to get from edge to edge and will hold better on steeps and firm snow. Below are a few skis we think are right for the job.
ATOMIC MAVERICK 105 CTI
Built to charge and driven to explore, the Atomic Maverick 105 CTI sets the new standard for all-mountain, all-conditions, freeride skis. We tested this ski last Spring at Mission Ridge on a hero groomer day and it can definitely carve. It held strong in the tip and had a fun, sweet turn shape. However, where this ski shines is off-piste in powder and variable snow. We took it to Chile and it was the perfect ski for conditions there. We had a foot of powder off-trail and hero groomers on. If and I say if, you had to go abroad with one ski only – this is a great tool for the job.
The Maverick is constructed with a Power Woodcore, a dynamic ash and poplar wood core that improves stability and reduces vibration at speed. CTI Powered, the core utilizes a mix of carbon and titanal to create the ideal balance of agility and sturdiness for energetic, highly charged skiing. All Mountain Rocker offers greater versatility. It also features the same sturdy HRZN 3D tip found on the super fun Bent Chetler, which adds more surface for better float in deeper snow conditions and allows you to surf through narrow trees with ease.
Our buddy Daron Rahlves had a hand in developing this ski and he loves the Maverick’s hard-charging, off-piste, in-resort, all-over versatility. If Daron can charge this ski then it’s definitely up to the task.

PEAK 78 by Bode
The Peak 78 is a mid-size ski that rips up corduroy and is a gateway drug to the enter the world of high-performance freeride carving! The 78 combines high levels of edge grip and stability with easy turn initiation and versatility for all skiers. This ski is a perfect addition to the quiver of skiers who try to ski everything on their wide freeride skis. It has the familiar shape and feel of your wider 98-108 ski but, with a much narrower waste, this ski will allow you to get off your edges faster.
Learning to carve takes a different approach. Your ankles, knees and hips need the freedom to move and rotate – wider skis make this so much harder to do. Even if you are an expert, carving all day on a 108 is tiring. This 78 will allow many skiers to make the transition to a narrower ski and up their carving game considerably.
Expert skiers will find this ski to be a super fun companion in many conditions. Fast on piste and just enough width and early rise to make variable conditions a breeze. The 78 might come off as burly. Two full sheets of metal sandwich a paulownia and ash core and the bottom alloy runs “over the keys” in ski engineer speak. What the hell does that mean? The ski’s edges offer more bite. But don’t get scared off. Because the 78 is built around our concept of “accessible power,” it only skis as hard as you do.
We will have this ski available to demo in two different sizes this winter. Pick it up from club headquarters on one of your day trips or come to one of our demo days at Mission Ridge.

ATOMIC REDSTER X9S RVSK S + X 12 GW T
The Atomic Redster X9S Revoshock S is for skiers who know how to carve and want a fast, responsive high performance ski to rip groomers or even take in the gates. This ski has been my go to fast ski for the last two seasons. Whether its running gates in the beer league or just lapping at Mission Ridge – this ski is fast fun. We even skied Werner Heels pair last winter in the Dolomites on our DreamTrip!
The X9S takes World Cup proven tech and packs it into a platform for skiers who want to enjoy the speed and versatility of Atomic’s Multi Radius Sidecut engineering. The Redster X9S Revoshock S is ready to snap off quick short carves or stretch out beautiful long-radius turns. With Revoshock S technology, the Redster X9S Revoshock S has an agile, predictable ride, making icy, early morning corduroy a pleasure to ski. Dual-layer TI laminate enhances overall strength and torsional flex, while Ultrawall construction combines the edge hold and power transfer of a full sidewall with the durability and longevity of cap finishing. The Ultra Power Woodcore comes over from Atomic’s FIS race platforms to provide pro-level strength, keeping the speed up and the fun high from open to close.
The Atomic Redster X9S Revoshock S is for skiers who want speed, versatility, and max performance – infused with World Cup heritage and a hefty dose of fun.

Goggles
After boots the single most important piece of gear might be good goggles, because if you can’t see you can’t ski. Many people think they can get by with cheap goggles as they are under the opinion that they are only there to keep snow and wind out of your eyes. They couldn’t be more wrong. Good goggles allow you to see on bad days. They define the terrain, shadows and give you depth of field in flat light. They are quite often the difference between an average day and a great day. After years of fluctuating between cheap and decent goggles, I literally saw the light a few years ago in Japan when my average pair filled with snow. A fellow ADLer handed me his extra pair of Oakley Prisms and I quite literally saw the forest for the trees. The difference in clarity was stunning. I haven’t looked back since. The only goggles for me are Oakleys and lucky for you all, club members can get them at super special club price. Which brings me to next season and these are at the top of my new gear wants…
OAKLEY LINE MINER PRO
The Line Miner Pro will be released this October. It boasts their sharpest optics and widest filed of view in one package, giving ou the best visual advantage on teh mountain. They achieved this through their new single-layer lens design which reduces distortion, refraction and increases field of view by 20% in comparison to their line miner model. Add in their Switchlock technology lens changing system, and you’re ready for anything that comes your way!!
SWITCH LOCK TECHNOLOGY
Magnets located around the frame are
designed to allow you to quickly adapt
to changing weather conditions, while
two mechanical locks give you the
confidence of lens security.
SINGLE-LAYER LENS
They fused the anti-fog
treatment directly onto the
outer lens. The result is a
better optical experience:
decreased optical distortion,
refraction, and reflection.
2 LENS BUNDLE
Every Line Miner Pro comes
with a 2-lens bundle for
easy lens change so you can
quickly adapt to changing light
conditions, keeping you on the
mountain longer.

Clothes
If you think having too many skis is a problem, you can forget about ski clothes. I had to add a room in our house for all my jackets and I still don’t have enough space for all of them. The worst part is, I still want more. It’s a disease. Here are my top picks for next winter.
Elevenate Men’s & Women’s Pure Jacket
No fuss, just function – the Pure Jacket focuses on the essentials for great days on snow. Last season I used this coat and pant combo in every condition imaginable, from wet PNW days to super dry Japow and everything in between. The versatility of the shell allows you to layer for super cold days and thin out for warm. The Gore-tex durable material holds up and still looks and performs like new after 60+ days on the mountain.
Durable 3-layer Gore-tex makes it reliably wind and waterproof, and the thin flannel-like backing adds a little extra warmth without unnecessary weight or bulk. Perfect when most of your days are spent exploring gravity and flow on the mountain. The design is clean with few but highly functional details, while the relaxed cut allows for plenty of movement. A storm hood offers excellent protection on windy days and ventilation zippers let out moisture when activity levels rise.
